On January 16, TAYP President Firas Ben Achour, along with fellow TAYP members and other individuals from the Tunisian-American community in Raleigh, North Carolina, met with Congressman David Price at his North Carolina office.
Congressman Price represents the 4th district, also known as the Research Triangle, which consists of a vibrant and emerging technology hub in the Raleigh/Durham area. He serves on the Appropriations Committee, as well as the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee. Congressman Price has been a recognized leader in foreign policy and initiated the House Democracy Partnership (of which he currently serves as co-chair) to strengthen and support parliaments in emerging democratic states. He also recently visited Tunisia, where he had the opportunity to observe the legislative elections.
At the meeting, Congressman Price explained how impressed he was with the passion of the Tunisian electorate, and stressed that the gains Tunisia has made in recent years have transformed it into a democratic model for the rest of the region. Following a discussion about the future of Tunisia, the TAYP team had the opportunity to present the organization’s vision for the coming year through the lens of the 4 E’s model (entrepreneurship, education, export, and exchanges), and highlighted future programming, including our signature entrepreneurship and exchange programs. We appreciate Congressman Price’s support for Tunisia at this critical juncture in the country’s history and for taking the time to speak with us as we continue to have an impact on Tunisia’s growth and development over the coming year.
